"복합 관계대명사"는 모양이 "관계대명사"와 비슷해서 붙여진 이름이지 그 성질이나 쓰임새가 전혀 다릅니다.

"복합 관계대명사"는 "any+명사+관계 대명사"를 하나로 묶어놓은 것과 비슷한 독특한 접속사입니다.
이들은 또 "no matter + who, whom, which. what"로 전환해 생각해 보실수 있습니다.
"복합 관계대명사"는 "선행사"를 이미 포함하고 있기 때문에 모두 "명사절"입니다
때문에 "관계대명사"처럼 형용사절이 되는 경우는 없습니다.
그리고 독립 "부사절"이 되기도 합니다.

"who, whom, whose, which. what"은 모두 원래 "의문사"입니다.
이들이 관계대명사로 쓰일때는 그 모양만 빌려다 쓰는 것이지 의문사로서의 역할은 없습니다.
단지 겹치는 선행사를 대신하는 것 뿐입니다.
하지만 복합 관계대명사에서는 "의문사"에 가깝습니다.
왜냐하면 위에 말씀드린 "no matter + "who, whom, which. what"에서
"who, whom, which. what"은 모두 "의문사"이기 때문입니다.

다음과 같은 뜻을 가졌지만 19세기 이후 거의 사용하지 않습니다.
(때문에 알 필요도 없습니다)
