Why check ID?

As a server it's up to you to determine whether your guests are 19 years of age or older.
주류를 제공하는 사람으로써 당신의 손님이 19세 또는 그 이상인지를 확인하는 것이 당신에게 달려있다.
In Ontario it's illegal for licensed establishments to serve alcohol to anyone under 19 years.
온타리오주에서는 주류판매장에서 19세 미만의 사람에게 주류를 제공하는 것은 뷸법이다.
Serving alcohol to under-aged guests, besides being against the law, is an offence under the Liquor Licence Act (LLA) and
can lead to charges by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario and the police.
미성년자에게 술을 제공하는 것은, 법에 저촉될뿐만 아니라. 주류법의 위반이며 AGCO나 경찰에 의해 고소당할수도 있다.
You and your establishment can be sued and /or fined.

Your employer's Liquor Licence can also be suspended or revoked.

When to check ID?

When a person looks younger than 25 years of age.

Body language or behaviour is unusual, for example avoiding eye contact or trying to rush the process.

Always ask for one or more pieces of government-issued photo ID NEVER accept student cards or expired ID

How to check ID:

Examine in a well-lit area
조명이 밝은 곳에서 점검한다.
Tilt the ID under light to see all of the reflective seals and holograms flash
반사광의 모든 봉합이나 입체광이 반짝이는지를 점검하기 위해 ID를 이리저리 기우려 본다.
Check the overall condition of the card – minors often use the expired license of a family member or friend
카드의 전체적 상태를 본다 - 미성년자들이 종종 가족이나 친구의 유효날자가 지난 ID를 이용한다.
Visually and manually confirm that the ID's size, weight and shape are normal and that the photo,
lettering and lamination haven't been switched, altered or tampered with

Check for uneven surfaces and edges as well as cuts or bubbles in the laminate

What to check?

Does the person actually look old enough to be the person on the ID?
손님이 ID상에 있는 사람처럼 충분히 나이가 들어 보이는가?
Does the ID verify that the person is over the legal drinking age
ID가 손님이 음주할수 있는 법적 나이를 증명해 주는가?
If the colours are dull/faded or if the birth or expiry dates look scratched,
or appear to have been tampered with – do not accept the ID
만일 ID색이 흐리거나 희미하고 생년월일이나 만기일에 긁힌 자국이 있거나, 하니면 조작된 흔적이 있으면 - 그 ID는 받지마라.
Are the letters in the same font and same size of font?
글자들이 같은 글자체인지 같은 크기의 글자체인지?
Beware of misspelled words or disclaimers
철자가 틀렸거나 빠진곳이 있는지?
Compare ID photo and description- height, weight, eye and hair colour are the most likely and easiest to change,
pay attention to the shape and size of the facial features.
ID에 있는 사진과 특징 을 비교하라- 키, 몸무게, 눈과 머리 색은 가장 고치기 쉽다. 그리고 얼굴형태의 모양이나 크기에 주의를 기우려라.

Keep on file a copy of a current legitimate ID available for comparison's sake

What to do when the Person & ID Aren't a Real Match:
실제 사람과 ID가 일치하지 않으면 어떻게 할까?
As a server, it is your right and responsibility to ask for additional ID if you have any concerns
about the identification that has been presented to you.
주류를 제공하는 사람으로서, 당신은 당신에게 제공된 ID에 대해 의문이 있으면 보조 ID를 요구할 권리와 의무가 있다.
If you still have doubts about the validity of the ID you might want to consider asking the following questions:

Ask the person to sign a blank sheet of paper and compare the signature to the one on the ID.
