Prince 자신이 만든 곡으로 1984년 5월에 릴리즈 됐습니다.
그의 자서전적 영화 Purple Rain의 삽입곡으로 감독의 부탁으로 만들었다고 합니다.
영화 Purple Rain 속에는 그의 가족얘기가 나옵니다.
대가 센 아버지 때문에 행복하지 않은 가정입니다.
Prince는 이런 불행한 가족사와 자신의 불행한 연인관계를 노래속에 믹스해 놓았습니다.
이 노래의 특징중 하나는 베이스 기타연주가 들어가 있지 않은 것입니다.
레코딩을 하는 과정에서는 베이스가 있었다고 합니다.
하지만 특별한 음악을 만들고 싶어했던 Prince가 마지막 순간 베이스를 뺐다고 합니다.
또 하나의 특징은 모든 악기를 Prince 혼자 연주한 것입니다.
