고유명사

고유명사란 사람의 이름이나 지명, 요일 등과 같이 세상에 존재하는 
모든 사물에 고유하게 붙여진 이름을 말합니다.
때문에 세상에 단 하나밖에 없는 것으로 간주합니다.


예를 들면,

보통명사                                고유명사

Woman             Madonna, Helen, Jane, Kim Yeong Ja 등등
Car                    Kia, Hyundai, Ford, Toyota, Benz 등등

Magazine         Times, Newsweek, Vogue, Dong A ilbo  등등
Star                   Jupiter, Mars, Andromeda, Big Dipper 등등
Plane                Air Canada, United Airline, KAL , Asiana 등등

고유명사는 첫글자를 대문자로 써야합니다.
그리고 원칙적으로 고유명사에는 관사를  붙이지 않습니다.
하지만 아래와 같은 예외가 있습니다.
                                                                                 
나라이름 중 “States,” “Kingdom,” “Republic”을 포함하는 것:
the United States of America, the Republic of Phillippines

강, 바다, 대양, 운하 중 일부:
the Suez Canal, the River Nile, the Nile, the Mediterranean Sea,
 the Mediterranean, the Pacific Ocean, the Pacific

선박이나 기차:
the Queen Mary, the titanic, the mayflower

산맥, 군도, 나라 등 여러개체가 모여서 이루진 것들:
the Philippines, the United States, the Virgin Islands, the British Isles, the Himalayas, the Alps

어느 가문을 얘기할 때:
the Ford, the smith,  the Clintons  

일부 잡지 이름:
The New York Times, The Economist

등등입니다.

고유명사를 보통명사로 생각하는 경우가 있습니다.


"~~의 작품" "~~사의 제품"이란 의미일 때입니다.

The gallery has a Millet and two Rodins. 
그 화랑은 밀레의 작품 한 점과 여러 점의 로댕 작품을 소장하고 있다.
There is a Picasso on the wall. 
벽에는 피카소 그림이 한 점 있다.
My father has two Hyundais 
나의 아버지는 두 대의 현대 차를 가지고 있다.
My company bought two Kias and Three Hyndais for the employs.
우리회사에서 기아차 두대와 현대차 세대를 구입했다.

"~~ 같은 사람" "~~ 같은 곳"이란 의미일 때입니다.

He is an Einstein in physics.
그는 믈리학에서 아이슈타인 같은 사람이다.
A Newton cannot become a Shakespeare at will. 
뉴턴과 같은 과학자가 마음대로 셰익스피어 같은 문학가가 될 수는 없다.
I wish to become a Nelson. 
나는 넬슨 같은 해군 제독이 되고 싶다.
He is the Edison of Korea. 
그는 한국의 에디슨이다.
Kang Won Do is the Alps of Korea.
강원도는 한국의 알프스이다.

Sydney is called the Naples of Australia. 
시드니는 호주의 나폴리라고 불린다.

어제 밀러 씨라는 분이 당신을 보러 왔었습니다.
There are many Parks in Korea. 
학국에는 박씨 성을 가진 사람이 많다.

그 드라마는 두명의 오헤영에 대한 얘기이다.

"~ 씨 부부", "~ 의 가족"이란 의미일때 입니다.

The Lees were so generous that they donated two hundred millions Won for the charity.
이씨 가족은 그 자선단체에 이억원을 기부할 정도로 자비로운 사람들이다.
I came across the smith walking in the park on my way to school.
학교가는 길에 공원을 산책하고 있는 스미스부부를 우연히 만났다.
